Calendar of Concerts  2013-2014

These are the forthcoming concerts for the 2013-14 season, all concerts taking place in the Market Hall in Appleby and starting at 7:30pm.  If you'd like your own copy of the concert dates, as a nice poster to print off and put on your notice board at home, click HERE.   You might also like to help us by printing one or two off and displaying them in a suitably prominent position in your community - that would be greatly appreciated.

Highlights

  • Five musical recipes to sample over the winter.
3.8 more new names and 1.2 firm favourites return for 2013-14.  Curious arithmetic, until you realise that a wind quintet in November, new to us, is hiding a flautist who has previous form in Appleby.
  • Sunday 20th October 2013  - Min-Jin Kym Trio.  Classic violin, 'cello and piano trio line-up  with a programme of Beethoven, Faure and Mendelssohn.  Miss Kym and pianist Ian Brown have already established a solid musical bond and the addition of Philip Higham's prodigious talent will ensure an evening to remember.
  • Sunday 17th November 2013 -  Atea Wind Quintet.  Flautist Alena Lugovkina wowed our Appleby audience with her gorgeous tone and effortless technique and this time we welcome her back with the other 4 elements of a wind quintet in tow.
  • Sunday 26th January 2014 - Y***shire **ps. You can probably fill in the blanks that make up the name of one of the top brass bands in the country.  The Yorkshire Imperial Urquhart Travel Band (to give them their full, Sunday name) will take the stage again in front of what will probably be a capacity audience to demonstrate the raw talent that makes them the household name they have become.  If you want to park near the hall, arrive in good time!
  •  Sunday 16th February 2014 - Laura van der Heijden and Mana Oguchi.   Displaying a mature musicality that utterly belied her tender 15 earthling years, Laura swept to victory in the 2012 BBC Young Musician of the Year with her interpretation of Walton's Cello Concerto.  So we simply had to see if we could tempt her up into the Land of Eden and let her discover just how beautifully a cello's acoustic voice sits in our rather special hall.  She said yes.  Brilliant!
  • Sunday 16th March 2014 - Kammer Philharmonie Europa.  Founded in 2006 in Cologne, the KPE engages over 60 young musicians from across 18 European nations and last season performed over 70 concerts worldwide.  We are delighted to be able to host an ensemble of 10 of their number who are presenting a series of UK concerts this year.
