Alena
Lugovkina was born in Moscow in 1989.
She began studying flute aged 7 at the
Gnesins Special Music School from where
she graduated with High Distinction in
final exams in 2007. In the same year
she won a scholarship to the Royal
Academy of Music to study with the great
William Bennett.
Alena has accumulated several
prestigious awards whilst studying at
the Royal Academy including the “Wolfson
Foundation Award”, “A F Trust Award”,
“Jo Weinberg Award”, “Elizabeth Spater
Award” in addition to being the finalist
of the Academy Wigmore Award. She won
1st Prize at the RAM competition “J&J
Brough Prize”, as well as 1st Prize at
the 13th International Flute Competition
“Friedrich Kuhlau” in Germany and 1st
Prize and Sebastian Bell award at the
British Flute Society’s
Competitions. Alena's yet short but
glittering career has seen her perform
solo works with some of the world's
leading orchestras, including the Moscow
Chamber Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic
Orchestra and at the Kings Place with
the Royal Academy of Music Chamber
Orchestra. She was invited to give a
solo recital at the National Flute
Association Convention in New York in
2009, followed by several solo recitals
in Spain during 2010.
She has also given solo recitals at the
British Flute Society’s Conventions in
Manchester (2008 and 2010) when she
additionally shared a recital playing
duets with Emmanuel Pahud. Looking
forward to 2011, Alena is due to give a
solo recital at the prestigious
International Flute Convention “Flautissimo”
in Rome, and has been appointed teaching
assistant at the William Bennett
International Flute Summer School this
coming August. |
